Ingredients

  • 4 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 Tbsp all‑purpose flour
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 2 cups whole milk or half‑and‑half
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp white or black pepper
  • 4 cups frozen peas
  • ¼ cup heavy cream (optional)

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Whisk in flour and garlic powder until smooth.
  3. Slowly whisk in milk, cooking until thickened, about 6 minutes.
  4. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Add peas and cook, stirring, until heated through, about 4 minutes.
  6. Stir in heavy cream if using; adjust seasoning and serve warm.

Notes

  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days; reheat gently.
