Description

Tender and flavorful slow cooker BBQ ribs cooked low and slow to perfection, finished under the broiler for a sticky caramelized glaze.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 racks pork baby back ribs (about 4 pounds total)
  • 2 cups barbecue sauce, divided

Dry Rub

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Prep the Ribs: Remove the membrane from the back of each rack of ribs and pat the ribs completely dry with paper towels to help the seasoning stick.
  2. Make the Dry Rub: In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper, mixing thoroughly to create an even seasoning blend.
  3. Season the Ribs: Rub the dry seasoning mixture evenly over both sides of the ribs, pressing it firmly into the meat to ensure maximum flavor infusion.
  4. Arrange in Slow Cooker: Cut the racks as needed to fit and arrange them inside the slow cooker in a single or layered fashion.
  5. Add Sauce: Pour 1 1/2 cups of barbecue sauce evenly over the ribs, making sure they are well coated for moisture and flavor during the slow cook.
  6. Slow Cook: Cover the slow cooker and cook the ribs on low heat for 7 to 8 hours until they are tender and the meat easily pulls away from the bone.
  7. Baste and Broil: Carefully transfer the cooked ribs to a baking sheet and brush the remaining 1/2 cup barbecue sauce over them.
  8. Finish Under Broiler: Broil the ribs for 3 to 5 minutes until the barbecue sauce caramelizes and becomes slightly sticky, giving the ribs a delicious glaze and texture.

Notes

  • Removing the membrane ensures more tender ribs and better flavor penetration.
  • Use your favorite barbecue sauce or homemade sauce for best results.
  • Broiling time may vary depending on your oven; watch closely to avoid burning the sauce.
  • For a smoky flavor, add smoked paprika in the dry rub or use a smoked barbecue sauce.
  • Leftover ribs can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for longer storage.
