A comforting and flavorful recipe for Salisbury Steak Meatballs made with ground beef, Parmesan, and a rich brown gravy. These meatballs are browned to perfection on the stovetop then simmered in a savory gravy for a hearty, satisfying meal perfect for weeknight dinners.
Ingredients
Scale
Meatballs
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Gravy
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 packet brown gravy mix
- 2 cups beef broth
Instructions
- Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, milk, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly to evenly distribute all ingredients.
- Form Meatballs: Roll the mixture into evenly sized meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter, ensuring they hold together well for cooking.
- Brown Meatballs: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and brown them on all sides, approximately 5-7 minutes, until a nice crust forms.
- Set Aside Meatballs: Remove the browned meatballs from the skillet and set them aside to prepare the gravy.
- Make Gravy: In the same skillet, add the brown gravy mix and beef broth. Stir continuously to combine, scraping any browned bits from the bottom of the pan to add flavor.
- Simmer Meatballs in Gravy: Return the meatballs to the skillet, reduce heat to a simmer, and cook covered for 20-25 minutes until the meatballs are cooked through and the gravy has thickened.
- Serve: Serve the Salisbury Steak Meatballs hot with the rich brown gravy spooned generously over the top, ideal alongside mashed potatoes or buttered noodles.
Notes
- For a lower-fat version, use lean ground beef or ground turkey.
- Ensure meatballs are uniformly sized for even cooking.
- If gravy thickens too much, add a splash of extra beef broth or water to loosen it.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 1 month.
- Serve with mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables, or egg noodles for a complete meal.
