Description

A flavorful and versatile Indian-inspired roti wrap filled with spiced chicken, paneer, or chickpeas, fresh vegetables, and a cooling yogurt sauce. Perfect for a quick lunch or meal prep, this wrap combines traditional spices with fresh ingredients wrapped in warm whole wheat roti or tortillas.

Ingredients

Scale

Wrap Ingredients

  • 4 large roti or whole wheat tortillas
  • 1 tablespoon oil or ghee

Spice Mix & Protein Filling

  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups cooked and shredded chicken, paneer, or chickpeas

Fresh Toppings & Sauce

  • ½ cup plain yogurt or sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce or cabbage
  • 1 medium tomato, diced
  • ½ cucumber, sliced
  • ¼ cup chopped cilantro
  • Lemon wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the spice base: In a skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds to release their aroma.
  2. Sauté aromatics: Add the sliced onion, minced garlic, grated ginger, and finely chopped green chili (if using). Cook for 4–5 minutes until the onion softens and is translucent.
  3. Add spices and protein: Stir in garam masala, turmeric, chili powder, and salt. Then add the cooked shredded chicken, paneer, or chickpeas. Cook for another 3–4 minutes, stirring frequently to coat the protein well with the spices and heat through. Remove from heat.
  4. Warm the rotis: Heat each roti or tortilla on a dry skillet for about 30 seconds per side until warm and pliable.
  5. Assemble the wraps: Spread a spoonful of yogurt or sour cream down the center of each warmed roti. Add a generous amount of the spiced protein filling, then layer with shredded lettuce or cabbage, diced tomato, sliced cucumber, and chopped cilantro. Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the filling for brightness.
  6. Roll the wraps: Fold the bottom edge of the roti up over the filling, then fold in the sides and roll tightly like a burrito to seal all ingredients inside.
  7. Serve: Enjoy the wraps immediately for the best taste and texture.

Notes

  • Make the wraps vegan by using chickpeas and dairy-free yogurt or sour cream.
  • Add pickled onions or a spicy chutney to enhance the flavor.
  • Great option for meal prep: store the filling and toppings separately, then assemble wraps fresh before serving to keep them from getting soggy.
