Description

Deliciously gooey and flavorful pull apart garlic bread with melted mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses baked into a crusty sourdough or Italian loaf. Perfect as an appetizer or side dish, this easy-to-make recipe features a buttery garlic herb mixture infused into crosshatched bread slices baked until golden and cheesy.

Ingredients

Scale

Bread:

  • 1 large loaf of crusty sourdough or Italian bread

Garlic Butter Mixture:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped (optional)
  • Salt to taste

Cheese:

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking.
  2. Prepare the bread: Place the loaf on a cutting board and carefully slice it in a crosshatch pattern about 1 inch apart using a serrated knife. Be sure not to slice all the way through to keep the loaf intact.
  3. Make garlic butter mixture: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, chives (if using), and a pinch of salt. Mix until evenly combined.
  4. Stuff the bread: Gently separate the cuts in the bread and spoon or brush the garlic butter mixture into all the cracks. Stuff shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses into the spaces between the bread pieces, ensuring an even distribution.
  5. Wrap and bake: Wrap the stuffed loaf tightly in foil and place it on a baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes to melt the cheeses and warm the bread.
  6. Finish baking uncovered: Remove the foil to expose the top of the bread and bake for another 10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the top turns golden brown.
  7. Serve warm: Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. Pull apart the sections to enjoy the cheesy garlic bread warm as a delicious appetizer or side dish.

Notes

  • Add red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
  • Swap mozzarella with sharp cheddar or provolone for different cheese flavors.
  • Great as a party appetizer or as a side dish served alongside pasta meals.
