Description

Pretzel Christmas Crack is a festive and addictive treat combining crunchy pretzels, rich buttery toffee, and melty chocolate, topped with colorful sprinkles for a perfect holiday snack or gift. This easy no-fuss recipe delivers sweet and salty flavors in every bite, ready in just 15 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 40-48 pretzel crisps (or Pretzel Crackers, or 2-3 cups pretzels, not sticks)

Toffee

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar

Toppings

  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup sprinkles (or M&M’s, or candies of choice)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350℉ to prepare for baking the toffee layer.
  2. Prepare the baking tray: Line a 15″×10″ rimmed sheet pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil sprayed with cooking spray, or use a nonstick silicone baking mat for easy removal.
  3. Arrange the pretzels: Place pretzel crisps in a single, even layer on the tray. Break a few if necessary to fill gaps, ensuring the entire tray bottom is covered uniformly.
  4. Make the toffee: In a medium pot over medium-low heat, melt the butter and brown sugar together. Bring to a rolling boil, stirring occasionally, and let cook for 3 minutes or until the mixture bubbles and turns amber. For precise toffee, cook until temperature reaches 270℉-290℉ with a candy thermometer.
  5. Pour toffee over pretzels: Remove the pot from heat and carefully pour the hot toffee over the pretzels. Quickly spread evenly with a spatula to cover all pretzels.
  6. Bake: Place the sheet pan in the oven and bake for 3-5 minutes until the toffee starts to bubble.
  7. Add chocolate chips: Remove pan from oven and immediately scatter chocolate chips on top. Let sit 1-2 minutes to soften, then spread evenly with a spatula. If needed, return to oven 1-2 minutes to help melt and spread the chocolate.
  8. Top with sprinkles: While chocolate is still warm, sprinkle your choice of sprinkles or candies over the surface.
  9. Cool and set: Let the toffee cool completely at room temperature or refrigerate for 30 minutes to 1 hour until hardened.
  10. Break into pieces and serve: Flip the tray over, remove the parchment paper or foil, and crack the toffee into bite-size pieces with your hands or a knife. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature or refrigerated.

Notes

  • Use pretzel crisps or crackers for an even layer; pretzel sticks may not work well.
  • Cooking toffee to the specified temperature ensures perfect texture; a candy thermometer is helpful but optional.
  • For a smooth chocolate layer, spread the chocolate chips while warm and soft.
  • Store at room temperature for up to one week or refrigerate to keep chocolate firm longer.
  • Sprinkles or candies can be swapped with nuts or other toppings for variation.
