Description

Penne Arrabbiata is a fiery and flavorful Italian pasta dish that’s perfect for spice lovers. With a base of garlicky olive oil, bold red chili flakes, and rich tomato sauce, this quick one-pan meal comes together in under 40 minutes and packs a serious flavor punch. Great for weeknights, meatless meals, or when you want pasta with attitude.

Ingredients

Penne Arrabbiata:

  • 400 grams penne pasta
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 34 cloves garlic, minced
  • 12 teaspoons red chili flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 400 grams canned diced tomatoes (or fresh tomatoes, diced)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley or basil, for garnish
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Boil the Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add penne and cook until al dente. Drain, reserving pasta water if needed.
  2. Heat the Olive Oil: Warm the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  3. Sauté Garlic: Cook minced garlic until fragrant but not browned.
  4. Add Chili Flakes: Stir in chili flakes and cook for another minute.
  5. Add Tomatoes: Pour in diced tomatoes, simmer for 5–7 minutes.
  6. Season the Sauce: Taste, season with salt and pepper.
  7. Combine Pasta and Sauce: Toss cooked pasta in the skillet with the sauce.
  8. Serve: Plate the pasta, garnish, and optionally top with Parmesan.
  9. Enjoy: Serve hot and enjoy the bold, spicy flavor!

Notes

  • For an extra punch of flavor, add a splash of dry white wine before adding the tomatoes.
  • Use whole peeled tomatoes and crush them by hand for a rustic sauce.
  • This recipe is naturally vegan if served without cheese.
