Description

Mexican Picadillo is a hearty, flavorful ground beef dish with a mix of vegetables, raisins, olives, and spices. It’s often served with rice or tortillas for a complete meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1/2 cup carrots, diced
  • 1/4 cup green olives, sliced
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.
  2. Add the chopped onion and garlic to the skillet and cook for about 3 minutes, until softened.
  3. Add the diced potatoes and carrots to the skillet and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Stir in the tomato sauce, beef broth, cumin, oregano, cinnamon, green olives, and raisins. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Cover and let the mixture simmer on low heat for about 20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the flavors have melded together.
  6. Serve with rice or tortillas, and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a spicier version, you can add some chopped jalapeños or chili powder.
  • Picadillo can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and can be frozen for longer storage.
