Description

A refreshing, crowd‑pleasing classic margarita blend scaled up for serving a large group.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups (1.5 L) silver tequila (100% agave)
  • 4 cups (960 ml) freshly squeezed lime juice (about 32 limes)
  • 3 cups (720 ml) orange liqueur (Cointreau or quality triple sec)
  • 11 fl oz (325 ml) agave syrup (or simple syrup)
  • 2 oranges, sliced for garnish
  • 2 limes, sliced for garnish
  • Coarse salt or kosher salt for rimming glasses (optional)

Instructions

  1. Rim glasses (optional): rub lime wedge around glass rims, dip in coarse salt; set aside.
  2. In a clean 1-gallon jug or pitcher, combine tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur, and agave syrup.
  3. Secure lid and shake or stir until fully mixed.
  4. Add halved orange and lime slices to the jug.
  5. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour (up to 24 hours) to chill and develop flavor.
  6. Before serving, give jug a quick stir or shake to recombine.
  7. Serve over ice in rimmed glasses.
  8. Optional: top each glass with club soda or sparkling water for a lighter version.

Notes

  • Mix can be made 24–48 hours ahead—store refrigerated (fruit freshness best within 24 hours).
  • Stir or shake before serving to redistribute fruit slices.
  • Adjust sweetness with simple syrup or honey instead of agave if preferred.
  • Top with soda for a lighter “Tommy’s‐style” margarita.
  • Make it non‑alcoholic by replacing tequila and liqueur with limeade and orange juice.
