Description

This Maple Glazed Turkey Breast recipe features a succulent bone-in turkey breast coated with a flavorful rub and basted in a sweet and tangy maple glaze. Slow-roasted in the oven to achieve a golden crust and juicy interior, this dish is perfect for a festive holiday meal or a special weekend dinner. The glaze combines maple syrup, duck sauce, cider vinegar, and a hint of chili garlic sauce, creating a perfect balance of sweet, savory, and spicy notes.

Ingredients

Scale

Turkey and Rub

  • 8 lb. bone-in turkey breast
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. coarse ground black pepper

Maple Glaze

  • 4 tbsp. duck sauce
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 3 tbsp. cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp. chili garlic sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for roasting the turkey breast evenly and slowly.
  2. Prepare Glaze: In a bowl, mix together the duck sauce, maple syrup, cider vinegar, chili garlic sauce, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Divide the glaze into two bowls, setting one bowl aside for serving alongside the cooked turkey.
  3. Prepare Turkey: Clean the turkey breast and pat it dry thoroughly to ensure the rub adheres properly and the skin crisps up during cooking.
  4. Apply Rub: In a small bowl, combine the 2 teaspoons of salt, garlic powder, and black pepper. Rub this mixture all over the turkey breast evenly to season the meat deeply.
  5. Initial Cooking: Place the seasoned turkey breast in a large cast-iron frying pan lined with parchment paper. Put the pan into the preheated oven and roast for 30 minutes.
  6. Glaze & Baste: After the first 30 minutes, use a brush to coat the turkey breast with half of the prepared glaze. Repeat brushing the turkey with the glaze every 30 minutes while it continues to cook, discarding any glaze that has been used for basting before the next application.
  7. Cook Until Done: Continue roasting for approximately 15-18 minutes per pound, or until the internal temperature of the thickest part of the turkey breast reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit, as measured with an instant-read thermometer.
  8. Check Appearance: The turkey skin should develop a beautiful golden-brown color signaling the turkey is cooked and nicely glazed.
  9. Rest the Meat: Remove the turkey breast from the oven and let it rest for 15-20 minutes. Resting helps the juices redistribute within the meat, resulting in moist slices.
  10. Carve and Serve: Carve the turkey using a sharp knife to maintain clean slices with the skin attached. Serve with the reserved untouched glaze and your favorite side dishes. Enjoy your meal!

Notes

  • Using a cast-iron pan ensures even heat distribution and helps develop a crisp skin on the turkey.
  • Do not reuse the glaze used for basting as it can harbor raw turkey bacteria.
  • Resting the turkey is crucial for juicy meat—don’t skip this step.
  • Check internal temperature with an instant-read thermometer to ensure food safety.
  • For extra flavor, you can add fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary to the rub or glaze.
