Description
Homemade Star Crunch is a chewy, chocolatey treat made with caramel, crispy rice cereal, and rich chocolate, reminiscent of the classic Little Debbie snack.
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 (11 oz) bag caramel bits or 35 unwrapped soft caramels
- 2 tbsp milk or heavy cream
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 cups crispy rice cereal
Instructions
- In a large saucepan over medium-low heat, melt the butter.
- Add the caramel bits and milk (or cream). Stir continuously until fully melted and smooth.
- Remove from heat and stir in both types of chocolate chips and vanilla extract until melted and combined.
- Fold in the crispy rice cereal, mixing until evenly coated.
- Using a cookie scoop or spoon, drop mounds of the mixture onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Flatten slightly to form a disk shape and allow to cool at room temperature until set, about 1 hour.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
Notes
- Microwave method can be used for melting butter, caramel, and milk together.
- Use a mix of chocolate types for a richer flavor.
- Allow treats to cool fully for best texture.
