Description

These soft pretzel bites are warm, chewy, and buttery — just like the ones from the mall, but even better homemade! Perfect for parties, snacks, or game day. Serve them with cheese sauce or mustard for the ultimate treat.

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)

  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

For Boiling:

  • 2/3 cup baking soda

  • 10 cups water

For Topping:

  • 1 egg yolk beaten with 1 tbsp water (for egg wash)

  • Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.

  2. Add salt, sugar, melted butter, and flour. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. Knead dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  4. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

  5. In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.

  6. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Cut into 8 equal pieces, then roll each piece into a rope and cut into 1-inch bites.

  7. Working in batches, drop pretzel bites into the boiling baking soda water for 30 seconds. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on prepared baking sheet.

  8. Brush each bite with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse salt.

  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

  10. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For a sweet version, skip the salt and brush baked bites with melted butter, then toss in cinnamon sugar.

  • These bites are best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.

  • Reheat in the oven or air fryer to bring back their softness.
