Description

Learn how to make delicious Homemade French Fries that are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. These fries are perfect as a side dish or a snack.

Ingredients

Potatoes:

  • 4 large russet potatoes, peeled (optional) and cut into 1/4-inch thick sticks

Oil:

  • 4 cups vegetable oil for frying

Seasonings:

  • Salt to taste
  • Optional seasonings: garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, or fresh herbs

Instructions

  1. Soak Potatoes: Place the cut potatoes in a large bowl of cold water and soak for at least 30 minutes or up to overnight. Drain and pat the potatoes completely dry with paper towels.
  2. Fry at 325°F: Heat the oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 325°F. Fry the potatoes in batches for 3–4 minutes, or until soft but not browned. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  3. Fry at 375°F: Increase the oil temperature to 375°F. Fry the potatoes again in batches for 2–3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate and immediately sprinkle with salt and desired seasonings. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Double-frying is the secret to crispy fries.
  • You can also bake or air-fry the potatoes if preferred—just toss with a bit of oil and bake at 425°F for 30–35 minutes, flipping halfway through.
