Description
This creamy and rich butterscotch pie is a Southern classic, perfect for any dessert table. With a smooth, sweet filling and a buttery crust, it’s a comfort food favorite that’s both nostalgic and indulgent
Ingredients
-
1 pre-made pie crust (or homemade, if preferred)
-
1 cup packed brown sugar
-
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
-
1/4 teaspoon salt
-
2 cups whole milk
-
3 large egg yolks
-
1/4 cup unsalted butter
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-
1/2 cup heavy cream (whipped for topping, optional)
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). If using a pre-made pie crust, bake it according to the package instructions to ensure it’s golden and crisp.
-
Combine dry ingredients: In a medium saucepan, whisk together brown sugar, flour, and salt over medium heat.
-
Add milk and egg yolks: Slowly add the milk to the dry ingredients, whisking constantly. In a separate bowl, lightly beat the egg yolks, then gradually whisk them into the milk mixture.
-
Cook the filling: Continue to cook the mixture over medium heat, whisking constantly, until it thickens (about 8-10 minutes). Once thickened, remove from heat.
-
Finish the filling: Stir in butter and vanilla extract until smooth and combined.
-
Pour into crust: Pour the filling into the baked pie crust. Let it cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or until the pie has set.
-
Serve: Once set, top with whipped cream (optional) and enjoy!
Notes
-
For a homemade pie crust, simply mix flour, butter, and water, then roll it out and bake it in the pie dish.
-
This pie can also be topped with a sprinkle of toasted coconut for extra flavor.
