Ingredients
Scale
Chicken and Coating
- 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (pounded to even thickness)
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup breadcrumbs (panko preferred)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- Vegetable oil for frying (about 1 inch depth)
Sandwich Assembly
- 4 sandwich buns or brioche buns
- 1 cup romaine lettuce (shredded)
- ½ cup Caesar dressing
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Optional: sliced tomato or crispy bacon
Instructions
- Marinate the Chicken: Place the chicken breasts in a bowl with the buttermilk, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight for enhanced tenderness and flavor.
- Prepare the Breading Mixture: In a separate bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, panko breadcrumbs, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper until evenly combined.
- Heat the Oil: Pour about 1 inch of vegetable oil into a large skillet and heat over medium-high heat until shimmering and hot, ideal for frying.
- Coat the Chicken: Remove each chicken breast from the buttermilk, allowing excess liquid to drip off. Dredge the chicken thoroughly in the flour and breadcrumb mixture, pressing firmly to ensure an even, thick coating.
- Fry the Chicken: Carefully place the coated chicken breasts into the hot oil. Fry for 4–5 minutes on each side, or until the chicken is cooked through with an internal temperature of 165°F and the coating is golden brown and crispy.
- Drain Excess Oil: Transfer the fried chicken to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil and maintain crispness.
- Toast the Buns: Lightly toast the sandwich buns in a toaster or on a dry skillet until warm and lightly browned.
- Assemble the Sandwich: Spread Caesar dressing on the inside of both the top and bottom buns. Layer on the crispy chicken breast, shredded romaine lettuce, and grated Parmesan cheese. Add optional sliced tomato or crispy bacon if desired.
- Serve Immediately: Close the sandwich with the top bun and serve warm for the best texture and taste.
Notes
- For a healthier alternative, bake or air fry the chicken at 400°F for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- Use homemade Caesar dressing for a fresher, more vibrant flavor.
- Adding sliced tomatoes or crispy bacon provides extra layers of flavor and texture.
