Description

This creamy sausage pasta is the ultimate comfort food! Juicy Italian sausage is cooked with garlic, onions, and tomatoes, then simmered in a rich, creamy sauce and tossed with tender pasta. It’s a quick, easy dinner that’s full of flavor and perfect for weeknights.

Ingredients

  • 12 oz pasta (penne or rigatoni work great)

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 pound Italian sausage (mild or spicy, casings removed)

  • 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

  • 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes, undrained

  • 1/2 cup chicken broth

  • 3/4 cup heavy cream

  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • Salt and black pepper to taste

  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain and set aside.

  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil. Add sausage and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through—about 5-6 minutes.

  3. Add chopped onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Stir in garlic, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes. Cook for another minute.

  4. Pour in diced tomatoes and chicken broth. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes.

  5. Stir in heavy cream and Parmesan cheese. Simmer for another 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce thickens slightly.

  6. Add the cooked pasta and toss until well coated in the sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  7. Garnish with chopped parsley and more Parmesan if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

  • You can substitute the sausage with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.

  • Add spinach or kale for extra veggies.

  • Use half-and-half instead of heavy cream if you prefer a lighter sauce.
