Description

This creamy homemade peanut butter recipe is a delightful and simple way to make your own fresh, unsweetened peanut butter at home. Using raw unsalted peanuts, you roast and blend them into a smooth, rich spread perfect for sandwiches, baking, and drizzling over breakfast favorites. It’s a natural, preservative-free alternative that stores well for up to two months in the fridge.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 400 g raw unsalted peanuts, without shells
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt

Instructions

  1. Roast the peanuts: Preheat your oven to 180°C (356°F). Spread the raw unsalted peanuts evenly on a baking sheet and bake for 12-14 minutes until they are nicely toasted. Once done, remove the peanuts from the oven and let them cool completely for about 30 minutes. This roasting process enhances the nutty flavor and softens the peanuts for blending.
  2. Blend the peanuts: Transfer the cooled roasted peanuts to a high-speed blender or food processor. Blend continuously for 3-4 minutes. Initially, the peanuts will become a coarse meal, but as blending continues, the mixture will turn creamy and smooth, achieving a nut butter consistency. For blenders like a Vitamix, start on a low setting to prevent overheating and increase the speed once the mixture begins to come together.
  3. Serve your peanut butter: Use the homemade peanut butter as a spread on sandwiches or toast, drizzle over pancakes, waffles, or oatmeal, or incorporate it into recipes for peanut butter sauce, cookies, bars, tarts, brownies, ice cream treats, fudge, and candy. This plain, unsweetened version is versatile and perfect for both savory and sweet dishes.
  4. Store properly: Transfer the peanut butter into a clean airtight jar and keep it refrigerated. Properly stored, it will remain fresh and delicious for up to 2 months.

Notes

  • For even creamier peanut butter, blend for a few extra minutes until desired smoothness is reached.
  • You can adjust the salt amount according to taste or use no salt for a completely natural peanut butter.
  • If the peanut butter is too thick, adding a small amount of neutral oil (like peanut or vegetable oil) can help reach the preferred consistency.
  • Ensure the peanuts are completely cooled before blending to prevent overheating your blender or food processor.
  • Store peanut butter in the refrigerator to maintain freshness and prevent oil separation.
