Description
Coquito is a traditional Puerto Rican holiday beverage similar to eggnog but made with rich coconut milk, cream of coconut, evaporated and sweetened condensed milks, spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg, and optionally enhanced with white rum. This creamy, tropical drink is perfect for festive gatherings and can be served chilled with a cinnamon stick garnish.
Ingredients
Scale
Dairy and Coconut Milk
- 12 oz evaporated milk
- 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
- 15 oz cream of coconut
- 13.5 oz coconut milk
Flavorings
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Ground nutmeg (optional, for garnish)
- Cinnamon sticks (for garnish)
Alcohol
- 0.5 to 1 cup white rum (optional)
Instructions
- Combine the milks: Pour the evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, cream of coconut, and coconut milk into a blender. Blend on medium-high speed until the mixture is completely smooth and well incorporated.
- Add flavorings and rum: Add the vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and white rum if using. Blend again briefly to fully combine these ingredients with the base mixture.
- Chill the mixture: Pour the blended coquito into a pitcher or sealable bottles. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or preferably overnight to allow the flavors to meld and the drink to chill thoroughly.
- Serve and garnish: Before serving, shake or stir the coquito well to remix any settled ingredients. Pour into small serving glasses and garnish each with a cinnamon stick and a light sprinkle of nutmeg or additional cinnamon powder for an aromatic finish.
Notes
- Adjust the rum quantity or omit entirely for a non-alcoholic version ideal for all ages.
- Chilling overnight enhances the flavor and texture, making the drink creamier and more flavorful.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator and consume within 5-7 days for best freshness.
- Shake or stir well before each serving as the ingredients may settle over time.
