Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1½ cups cooked white or brown rice
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms (fresh or canned)
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×9-inch or similar-sized baking dish to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Cook Beef and Vegetables: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and chopped onion. Cook until the beef is browned and the onion is soft, about 6 to 8 minutes. Add the minced garlic and sliced mushrooms, and continue cooking for another 3 to 4 minutes until the mushrooms are tender. Drain any excess fat from the skillet if necessary.
- Combine Sauce Ingredients: Stir in the cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, dried parsley, salt, and black pepper into the skillet. Mix everything thoroughly until well combined.
- Add Rice and Cheese: Fold in the cooked rice and half of the shredded cheese into the beef mixture, ensuring all ingredients are evenly distributed.
- Assemble and Bake: Transfer the mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly. Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheese over the top. Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and the cheese on top is melted and golden brown.
- Rest and Serve: Once baked, remove the dish from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to set.
Notes
- For added texture, sprinkle fried onions or breadcrumbs on top before baking for a crunchy topping.
- This casserole freezes well; allow it to cool completely before storing in an airtight container for up to 2 months.
- Use brown rice for a nuttier flavor and added fiber.
- Adjust seasoning to taste, especially with salt and pepper.
