Description
Creamed chipped beef on toast is a classic comfort food dish made with dried beef in a creamy, savory white sauce, served over crispy toast. It’s a quick and easy meal that’s perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
Ingredients
-
2 tablespoons butter
-
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
-
2 cups whole milk
-
1 jar (2.5 oz) dried beef, sliced into strips
-
1/4 teaspoon black pepper (or to taste)
-
4 slices of bread, toasted
-
Optional: pinch of nutmeg or a dash of hot sauce for extra flavor
Instructions
-
In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
-
Whisk in the flour and cook for 1–2 minutes to form a roux.
-
Slowly whisk in the milk, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
-
Cook for 3–5 minutes, until the sauce thickens.
-
Add the sliced dried beef and stir to combine.
-
Simmer for another 2–3 minutes until heated through.
-
Season with black pepper and optional spices if using.
-
Serve the creamed chipped beef hot over toasted bread.
Notes
-
If the beef is too salty, rinse it under cold water or soak in warm water for a few minutes before using.
-
Great with scrambled eggs or topped with a fried egg for breakfast.
-
You can substitute milk with half-and-half for a richer sauce.
