Ingredients
Scale
Macaroon Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups shredded sweetened coconut
- 2/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 2 large egg whites
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Optional Chocolate Dip
- 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C) and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent sticking.
- Mix Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine the shredded sweetened coconut, sweetened condensed milk, egg whites, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Stir thoroughly until the ingredients are fully incorporated into a sticky mixture.
- Shape the Macaroons: Using a tablespoon, scoop the mixture and form it into mounds or balls. Place them onto the prepared baking sheet, making sure to leave about 1 inch of space between each macaroon for even baking.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake the macaroons for 15 to 20 minutes, or until their edges turn golden brown and the macaroons feel firm to the touch.
- Cool: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the macaroons to cool briefly on the sheet. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely, which helps them set properly.
- Optional Chocolate Dipping: Melt the semisweet chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl or using a double boiler. Dip the bottoms of the cooled macaroons in the melted chocolate and place them on parchment paper to allow the chocolate to set before serving.
Notes
- For best results, ensure your eggs are at room temperature before mixing.
- Use sweetened shredded coconut for the best texture and flavor.
- You can store macaroons in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- For longer storage, refrigerate in an airtight container for up to one week.
- Chocolate dipping is optional but adds a delicious contrast to the sweet coconut flavor.
- If you prefer crispier macaroons, bake an additional 2-3 minutes but monitor closely to avoid burning.
