Ingredients
Scale
Calzone Dough
- 1 can (13.8 oz) refrigerated pizza dough or homemade pizza dough
Filling
- 1 cup cooked chicken breast, shredded or diced
- 1/2 cup Alfredo sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
For Assembly
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Olive oil spray or brush (for air fryer basket)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface and cut it into 4 equal rectangles or circles, depending on your preference for calzone shape.
- Make the Filling: In a mixing bowl, stir together the cooked chicken, Alfredo sauce, shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper until evenly combined.
- Assemble the Calzones: Spoon a generous amount of the filling onto one half of each dough piece, leaving a small border around the edges to allow sealing.
- Seal the Calzones: Fold the dough over the filling to create a pocket. Firmly press the edges together, then use a fork to crimp the edges and secure the filling inside.
- Apply Egg Wash: Brush the tops of each calzone with the beaten egg to achieve a beautiful golden finish during cooking.
- Prepare Air Fryer: Lightly grease the air fryer basket with olive oil spray or brush to prevent sticking.
- Cook the Calzones: Place 2 calzones in the air fryer basket at a time, depending on size. Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the calzones are golden brown and crispy.
- Repeat and Serve: Air fry the remaining calzones in the same manner. Allow them to cool slightly before serving to avoid burning and help the filling set.
Notes
- Add cooked spinach, mushrooms, or broccoli to the filling for extra vegetables and flavor.
- Serve with warm marinara sauce or extra Alfredo sauce for dipping.
- Calzones can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen before air frying for convenience.
