This Cheddar Bay Green Bean Casserole is a delightful twist on a classic side dish, combining tender green beans with a creamy cheddar soup mixture, topped with a cheesy Cheddar Bay Biscuit crust. Perfect for holiday dinners or family gatherings, this casserole blends savory flavors with a crunchy biscuit topping infused with garlic and herbs.

Ingredients

Scale

Green Bean Mixture

  • 26 oz frozen cut green beans, thawed
  • 10.5 oz condensed cheddar soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup dehydrated minced onion
  • 2 tablespoons Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/3 cup shredded parmesan cheese

Cheddar Bay Biscuit Topping

  • 1 box Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuit Mix
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (for the biscuit batter)
  • 2 cups milk (1.5 cups for biscuit batter + 0.5 cup for green bean mixture)
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • Cheddar Bay seasoning packet (included in biscuit mix box)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the casserole.
  2. Mix Green Bean Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the thawed green beans, condensed cheddar soup, 1/2 cup milk, dehydrated minced onion, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir everything together until well mixed.
  3. Add Cheeses to Green Beans: Stir in the shredded cheddar and parmesan cheese to the green bean mixture until evenly distributed.
  4. Prepare Baking Dish: Spray a 9 x 13-inch baking dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  5. Fill Baking Dish: Pour the green bean mixture into the prepared dish and spread it out evenly.
  6. Prepare Biscuit Mix: In a mixing bowl, add the biscuit mix from the box, set aside the included seasoning packet for later.
  7. Make Biscuit Batter: Add 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese and 1 1/2 cups milk to the biscuit mix. Stir until there are no large lumps and the batter is smooth.
  8. Top Casserole: Pour the biscuit batter over the green bean mixture in the baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  9. Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 50 to 55 minutes until the biscuit topping is golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Make Butter Topping: While the casserole is baking, combine the melted butter and the Cheddar Bay seasoning packet in a small bowl.
  11. Brush Butter on Casserole: Once the casserole is baked, remove from the oven and brush the melted butter and seasoning mixture over the biscuit topping for extra flavor.
  12. Rest and Serve: Allow the casserole to rest for about 5 minutes to let the butter soak in, then serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Ensure green beans are fully thawed to avoid excess water in the casserole.
  • You can adjust seasoning to taste if preferred less salty or spicy.
  • The biscuit topping can be substituted with a homemade garlic biscuit dough if desired.
  • Allowing the casserole to rest before serving enhances flavor absorption and texture.
  • This recipe works well as a make-ahead dish; assemble and refrigerate before baking.
