Description

Cake in a Can is a fun and creative recipe for making individual mini cakes baked inside clean, food-safe cans. This easy dessert allows you to customize flavors and toppings, perfect for parties or unique gifts. Each mini cake is moist and delicious with simple ingredients and straightforward baking.

Ingredients

Scale

Cake Batter Ingredients

  • 1 box (15.25 oz) cake mix (any flavor)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup water

Baking Preparation

  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • 6 empty clean food-safe cans (15 oz size, labels removed)

Optional Toppings

  • Frosting
  • Sprinkles
  • Other desired toppings for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the oven and cans: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease the inside of each clean can with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Make the cake batter: In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and water. Mix thoroughly for about 2 minutes until the batter is smooth and well blended.
  3. Fill the cans: Carefully fill each greased can halfway with the prepared cake batter, leaving enough room for the cake to rise during baking.
  4. Bake the mini cakes: Place the filled cans upright on a baking sheet to keep them stable. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cake comes out clean.
  5. Cool and serve: Remove the cans from the oven and let them cool completely before handling. Once cooled, frost the top of each cake inside the can or gently remove the cakes from the cans to add your preferred toppings and serve.

Notes

  • Use BPA-free cans with smooth edges to ensure safety and avoid injury.
  • This method creates unique individual cakes that are great for parties or gifting in a personalized way.
  • Experiment with different cake mix flavors such as chocolate, funfetti, or red velvet for variety.
