Ingredients
-
1 lb ground beef
-
1 small onion, chopped
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
-
1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes
-
1 tablespoon tomato paste
-
1 teaspoon dried oregano
-
1/2 teaspoon paprika
-
Salt and pepper, to taste
-
1/2 cup uncooked white rice
-
1 small head green cabbage, chopped
-
1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
-
1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
-
In a large skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil. Add chopped onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
-
Add garlic and ground beef. Cook until beef is browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat.
-
Stir in tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
-
Stir in uncooked rice and remove from heat.
-
In a large baking dish (9×13), layer half the chopped cabbage, then the meat mixture, then the remaining cabbage.
-
Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
-
Remove foil, sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top, and bake uncovered for another 15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
-
Let it sit for 5-10 minutes before serving.
Notes
-
You can use ground turkey or pork instead of beef.
-
Brown rice works too—just increase the baking time slightly.
-
Add a pinch of red pepper flakes if you want a little heat.
