Description

Black Sesame Rice Krispie Treats are a delicious twist on the classic marshmallow treat, incorporating nutty black sesame paste for a rich flavor and beautiful gray-black color. These no-bake bars are quick to make and perfect for a unique dessert or snack with an Asian-inspired flair.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 (10 oz) bag mini marshmallows
  • 1/3 cup black sesame paste (unsweetened or lightly sweetened)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 cups crispy rice cereal
  • 2 tablespoons toasted black sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pan: Grease an 8×8-inch or 9×9-inch baking dish and set it aside to prevent sticking.
  2. Melt butter and marshmallows: In a large saucepan over medium-low heat, melt the unsalted butter. Add the mini marshmallows and stir continuously until they are fully melted and the mixture is smooth.
  3. Add black sesame paste: Stir in the black sesame paste and salt, mixing well until the mixture achieves a uniform gray-black color and is evenly combined.
  4. Fold in cereal: Remove the saucepan from heat and quickly fold in the crispy rice cereal until every piece is well coated with the sesame and marshmallow mixture.
  5. Transfer to pan and press: Pour the mixture into the prepared pan. Using a greased spatula or wax paper, gently press the mixture evenly into the pan without packing it too tightly to maintain a chewy texture.
  6. Garnish and cool: Sprinkle the top evenly with toasted black sesame seeds if desired. Allow the treats to cool completely at room temperature before slicing into 16 squares.

Notes

  • Black sesame paste adds a rich, nutty flavor and attractive color; sweetened paste results in a sweeter dessert.
  • If using unsweetened black sesame paste, add 1–2 tablespoons of honey or maple syrup to balance the flavor.
  • Do not over-pack the mixture in the pan to avoid overly firm treats.
  • Allow treats to cool fully to set properly before cutting.
