Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 (10 oz) bag mini marshmallows
- 1/3 cup black sesame paste (unsweetened or lightly sweetened)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 6 cups crispy rice cereal
- 2 tablespoons toasted black sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the pan: Grease an 8×8-inch or 9×9-inch baking dish and set it aside to prevent sticking.
- Melt butter and marshmallows: In a large saucepan over medium-low heat, melt the unsalted butter. Add the mini marshmallows and stir continuously until they are fully melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Add black sesame paste: Stir in the black sesame paste and salt, mixing well until the mixture achieves a uniform gray-black color and is evenly combined.
- Fold in cereal: Remove the saucepan from heat and quickly fold in the crispy rice cereal until every piece is well coated with the sesame and marshmallow mixture.
- Transfer to pan and press: Pour the mixture into the prepared pan. Using a greased spatula or wax paper, gently press the mixture evenly into the pan without packing it too tightly to maintain a chewy texture.
- Garnish and cool: Sprinkle the top evenly with toasted black sesame seeds if desired. Allow the treats to cool completely at room temperature before slicing into 16 squares.
Notes
- Black sesame paste adds a rich, nutty flavor and attractive color; sweetened paste results in a sweeter dessert.
- If using unsweetened black sesame paste, add 1–2 tablespoons of honey or maple syrup to balance the flavor.
- Do not over-pack the mixture in the pan to avoid overly firm treats.
- Allow treats to cool fully to set properly before cutting.
