Description

This Sloppy Joe recipe is a simple, hearty, and delicious meal that comes together in just 30 minutes. Made with ground beef, a tangy homemade sauce, and served on toasted buns, it’s the perfect comfort food for busy nights or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 1/2 green bell pepper, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 3/4 cup ketchup

  • 2 tbsp tomato paste

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard

  • 1 tsp chili powder

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

  • 1/4 cup water

  • 4 hamburger buns, toasted

  • Optional: sliced pickles or shredded cheese for topping

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed.

  2. Add chopped onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the skillet. Cook for 4–5 minutes, until the vegetables are soft.

  3. Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, chili powder, brown sugar, salt, pepper, and water. Mix well.

  4. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.

  5. Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture onto toasted hamburger buns.

  6. Add optional toppings if desired and serve warm.

Notes

  • You can swap ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.

  • For a spicy kick, add a dash of hot sauce or red pepper flakes.

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
