Ingredients
Scale
Beef and Marinade
- 16 oz Thinly Sliced Beef (rib eye or top blade recommended)
- 2 cloves Garlic (grated)
- 2 tbsp Soy Sauce (low-sodium preferred)
- 1 tbsp Oyster Sauce
- 0.5 tbsp Rice Vinegar
- 2 tbsp Honey
- 0.25 tsp Black Pepper (freshly cracked)
Rice and Vegetables
- 2 cups Cooked White Jasmine Rice (can substitute brown or cauliflower rice)
- 0.5 small Yellow Onion (thinly sliced)
- 0.33 cup Yellow Corn (frozen or canned)
- 2 stalks Green Onion (thinly sliced)
Other
- 2 tbsp Butter (divided; can substitute oil if preferred)
Instructions
- Prepare the Sauce: In a medium bowl, combine the grated garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce, rice vinegar, honey, and freshly cracked black pepper. Mix thoroughly until well blended and set aside to allow the flavors to meld.
- Caramelize the Onions: Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a large pan over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced yellow onion and sauté, stirring occasionally, until the onions become golden brown and caramelized, approximately 5 minutes. This step brings out natural sweetness and depth of flavor.
- Arrange and Sear Beef and Rice: Push the caramelized onions to the center of the pan. Then add the cooked jasmine rice on top of the onions. Around the edges of the pan, arrange the thinly sliced beef pieces in a single layer. Cook and sear the beef for about 3-4 minutes until it starts browning on the edges.
- Add Sauce and Garnishes: Drizzle the pre-made sauce evenly over the rice and beef mixture. Add the yellow corn and sliced green onions on top. Add the remaining butter to the pan to provide richness and help meld flavors.
- Mix and Serve Hot: Sprinkle additional freshly cracked black pepper to taste, gently mix all ingredients in the pan to combine evenly and coat with the sauce. Serve the dish immediately while hot for the best experience.
Notes
- For a healthier twist, substitute jasmine rice with brown rice or cauliflower rice.
- You can replace butter with a neutral oil such as vegetable or canola oil for a dairy-free option.
- If oyster sauce is not available, increase soy sauce slightly as a good alternative.
- Adjust black pepper quantity based on your heat preference.
- Ensure beef slices are thin for quick cooking and better tenderness.
