Description

This quick and easy beef and cabbage stir fry is packed with flavor and perfect for a busy weeknight. Tender strips of beef are cooked with crunchy cabbage in a savory sauce that comes together in just minutes. It’s a healthy, satisfying meal you can make in one pan!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced

  • 1/2 head green cabbage, thinly sliced

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tablespoon ginger, grated

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium if preferred)

  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce

  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce

  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil

  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch

  • 2 tablespoons water

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)

  • Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, water, and black pepper. Set aside.

  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.

  3. Add the sliced beef and stir-fry for 2–3 minutes until browned and just cooked through. Remove from the pan and set aside.

  4. In the same pan, add another tablespoon of oil. Add garlic and ginger, and stir for 30 seconds until fragrant.

  5. Add the cabbage and stir-fry for 3–5 minutes until it starts to soften but still has a bit of crunch.

  6. Return the beef to the pan. Pour in the sauce and stir everything together until the beef and cabbage are well coated and the sauce thickens, about 1–2 minutes.

  7. Remove from heat, garnish with green onions and sesame seeds if using, and serve hot.

Notes

  • For extra heat, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a drizzle of sriracha.

  • You can swap green cabbage for Napa or savoy cabbage.

  • Great served over rice or noodles!
