Scale
- 1 lb white fish fillets (such as cod or halibut)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1 cup beer (or sparkling water)
- Oil for frying
- 8 small corn tortillas
- 2 cups shredded cabbage
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp sour cream
- 1 tbsp lime juice
- 1 tsp hot sauce
- Fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1 avocado, sliced
- Lime wedges, for serving
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and paprika. Gradually add beer, stirring until smooth. Set aside.
- Heat oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
- Dip fish pieces into the batter, allowing excess to drip off, then fry until golden and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
- In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, sour cream, lime juice, and hot sauce to make the sauce.
- Toss shredded cabbage with a little of the sauce to lightly coat.
- Warm tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave.
- Assemble tacos by placing fish on tortillas, topping with cabbage slaw, a drizzle of sauce, avocado slices, and fresh cilantro.
- Serve immediately with lime wedges on the side.
Notes
- Use sparkling water instead of beer for a non-alcoholic version.
- Adjust the hot sauce to your preferred spice level.
- For extra crunch, double-fry the fish pieces.
- Freshly made tortillas enhance the flavor.
