Description

Classic 7 Layer Bars are a delightful layered dessert featuring a crunchy graham cracker crust topped with sweetened condensed milk, butterscotch chips, chocolate chips, coconut flakes, and chopped pecans. Baked until golden, these bars are easy to make and perfect for a crowd, offering a rich combination of textures and flavors in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 1½ cups graham cracker crumbs
  • ½ cup salted butter, melted

Layers

  • 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup butterscotch chips
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1â…“ cup flaked coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare the Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly coat a 9×13-inch baking pan with nonstick spray and line it with parchment paper, allowing the paper to hang over the edges for easy removal of the bars.
  2. Make the Crust: In a bowl, combine the graham cracker crumbs with the melted salted butter. Press this mixture firmly and evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan to form a solid crust.
  3. Add the Sweetened Condensed Milk: Evenly drizzle the entire can of sweetened condensed milk over the graham cracker crust, covering it as uniformly as possible.
  4. Layer the Toppings: Sprinkle the butterscotch chips, semi-sweet chocolate chips, flaked coconut, and chopped pecans over the sweetened condensed milk layer in the order listed. Spread them out evenly and gently press down with a fork to help the layers stick together.
  5. Bake the Bars: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden and the edges are bubbly.
  6. Cool and Cut: Once out of the oven, while still warm, loosen the edges of the bars from the pan using the parchment paper. Transfer to a wire rack and allow to cool completely. Cut into 24 squares with a sharp knife before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the melted butter is evenly mixed with the graham cracker crumbs to create a firm crust that holds together.
  • Pressing the toppings gently helps them adhere better and produces cleaner slices.
  • Allow the bars to cool completely before cutting to avoid crumbling.
  • These bars can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days or refrigerated for longer freshness.
  • For a nut-free version, omit the pecans or substitute with sunflower seeds.
