Ingredients
-
8 oz elbow macaroni (or any pasta shape you like)
-
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
-
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
-
2 cups whole milk (warm)
-
2 cups shredded sharp white cheddar cheese
-
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
-
Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
-
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
-
In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute to form a roux.
-
Slowly whisk in the warm milk, making sure there are no lumps. Cook for 2–3 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce starts to thicken.
-
Stir in garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
-
Lower the heat and add the shredded white cheddar cheese. Stir until completely melted and smooth.
-
Add the cooked pasta back into the pot and stir to coat it evenly in the cheese sauce.
-
Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
-
Add a pinch of cayenne or a dash of hot sauce for a little kick.
-
For extra creaminess, stir in a spoonful of cream cheese or sour cream.
-
Feel free to mix in cooked bacon, peas, or sautéed spinach for added flavor.
